1400 Sam Houston
You can claim ownership to one of Sweetwater's most historic structures, originally known as the Trammell House, and more recently known as the Mulberry Mansion

An official, Texas Historical Marker was dedicated on the property on February 19, 1997.  Written on the plaque is a brief history of the property and the people significant to its history:

TRAMMELL HOUSE
RANCHER AND BANKER THOMAS TRAMMELL (1848 - 1919) WAS CALLED THE "FATHER OF SWEETWATER." HE HIRED NOTED CALIFORNIA ARCHITECT JOHN YOUNG TO DESIGN THE HOUSE.  TRAMMELL, WHO HELPED BRING RAILROADS TO SWEETWATER, KNEW OF YOUNG'S DESIGN WORK FOR THE SANTA FE RAILWAY. BUILT IN 1911 - 13, THIS HOUSE REFLECTS THE MISSION REVIVAL-PRAIRIE SCHOOL STYLE OF ARCHITECTURE AND FEATURES A UNIQUE ATRIUM. FROM 1923 TO 1936 THE HOUSE SERVED AS THE ONLY HOSPITAL IN THE AREA.  LATER THE TRAMMELL'S DAUGHTER AND HER FAMILY OCCUPIED THE HOME.

The home was extensively renovated in the 1990's by Raymond and Beverly Stone into a popular Bed & Breakfast, as well as a beautiful setting for many civic and private celebrations.

The gracious entry includes an oversized, wrap-around porch that is supported by large concrete stucco columns.

The property is currently a private residence, while retaining the opulence and grandeur of Sweetwater's Guilded Age, as demonstrated here in the foyer.

The den opens to the north of the foyer with tapering wood columns, beamed ceilings and a large craftsman fireplace with a keystone design.

The central and likely the most intriguing  room in the entire home is the step-up atrium, which opens with wide horizontal arches to the foyer, dining, breakfast areas.

The kitchen was completely updated to cater the bed & breakfast business, and it includes solid surface countertops.

Open to the kitchen through more horizontal arches, the breakfast room is adorned by decorative columns, hardwood floor and beautiful chandelier.

A stately presence permeates the dining room with its oversized chandelier, inlaid hardwood floors and built-in Craftsman buffet.

The lighted buffet has stained glass doors with Art Nouveau tulip designs.

Double French doors from the dining room intice you to explore the bar room and its brick floor pavers and more intricate stained glass.  Access to the finished basement of approx. 1,000 sqft is from the bar room.

Originally designed for dancing and entertaining, the second floor ballroom is now a luxurious master suite with access to the roof.

The upstairs bath has a huge marble tub, separate shower, stained glass window seat and tremendous storage and closet spaces.

The 2-story structure in back is made up of 2 apartments:  2br/2b, 1br/1b

Also included is a 3-car, detached garage.
