Sweetwater is home to the main campus for West Texas State Technical College. Sweetwater, the county seat of Nolan County, is strategically located at the east-west mid-point of Texas and the continental US on Interstate 20 (including US Hwy 84) at the intersection of State Highway 70. A 250-mile radius of Sweetwater includes the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, Midland-Odessa, Lubbock, Amarillo, Waco and San Angelo. The area is served by a municipal airport (Avenger field–home of the Women’s Air-force Service Pilots during WWII), two Class 1 rail lines (BNSF and Union Pacific) and one short line (TXOR).
